About the Program
The Graduate Program in Plant Pathology of the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV) was established in 1977. It is the graduate program with the greatest number of alumni holding an M.Sc. or D.Sc. in Plant Pathology in Latin America. It was the first graduate program in plant pathology in Brazil to obtain the maximum grade by the National funding and accreditation agency (CAPES). In 2009 our Program was ranked as Grade 7 due to its strong international visibility.
Currently, there are 16 faculties who advise graduate students in three main research areas of plant pathology: i) Etiology, ii) Epidemiology and iii) Control of Plant Diseases caused by fungi, oomycetes, viruses, bacteria, phytoplasmas and nematodes. All aspects related to plant pathogens can be explored. There are several projects being conducted in areas such as genetics, evolution, ecology, systematics and functional genomics. In the host-pathogen interaction area, the main topics studied involve physiology, genomics, epidemiology and disease management.
