In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have played an important role in different areas of society. Agronomy is one of them. Fields of great economic importance, such as integrated disease management and breeding programs, historically raised demands regarding the accuracy and speed of disease diagnosis and quantification methods. Currently, the combination of powerful computers and massive data storage systems allow the application of ML techniques to partially meet these demands. The potential applications of this sub-area of computer science within the field of plant health are of interest to many scientists around the world. In the last two years (2018/2019) almost 100 scientific articles were published about the use of AI in the area of plant pathology, with India, China and the USA being the main scientific producers in this discipline. The main objective of this seminar is to clarify some concepts about AI and ML, present some current information about those topics and illustrate the application of those concepts and tools to solve some plant pathology problems.
